The Water Taxi Cruise
A 25-minute water taxi cruse to the Saddle Trailhead, on the way visiting Gull Island seabird rookery puffins, cormorants, kittiwakes and more, sea otters & seals are common and sometimes porpoises, sea lions, and different species of whales.
Hiking to Grewingk Glacier Lake
A four-mile round trip hike begins at the Saddle Trailhead, a moderate hike up a series of switchbacks to the top of the saddle. The remainder of the hike is easy, down to the level glacial moraine opening to a Grewingk Glacier Lake with ice bergs at the foot of Grewgink glacier, surrounded by tall, mountain peaks.
Kayaking on Grewingk Glacier Lake
After receiving shoreside instructions we begin kayaking, on occasion Arctic Turns can be viewed as we navigate around ice bergs paddling towards the impressive blue face of Grewingk Glacier. Stopping for lunch on the cobblestone beach and a walkup for a grand view!
No experience is necessary!
Our double kayaks are stable, safe, roomy and a blast to paddle. Perfect for anyone who has never kayaked before.
The hike back, meeting the water taxi pick-up offers views of Halibut Cove & Kachemak Bay.
